How to Become an IPS Officer: Every year a large number of candidates appear for the UPSC examination (Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) Candidates apply for the IAS exam. When a candidate passes the UPSC exam and chooses IPS, he first has to go to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie (LBSNAA) for training. After completing the foundation course here, the candidate is sent to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad (SVPNPA) has one year of training. There are two types of activities in this training, one is indoor and the other is outdoor. Classes are held in the indoor class in which Indian police and laws, internal security and human rights laws etc. are taught. Outdoor activities include PT, athletics, gymnasium, sports, cross country race, drill, yoga, unarmed combat and swimming etc.

Reports suggest that trainee IPS officers have to attend 40 minutes of classes after 80 minutes of physical training in the morning. Playing games for 40-50 minutes in the evening is mandatory. After completing the training, IPS officers get their first posting as DSP.

According to reports, trainee IPS gets a salary of pay scale 15,600-39,100, pay grade 5400. After completing the training, along with the basic salary, many types of allowances and facilities are also given. Which includes car, bungalow, guard etc.
What is UPSC exam?
- UPSC is one of the toughest examinations in India.
- It consists of three stages: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Interview.
- The successful candidates are allotted to various services according to their rank.
- General category candidates can appear in the exam 6 times.
- OBC category candidates can appear for the exam 9 times.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST category can appear for UPSC exam unlimited number of times till the age of 37 years.
